After reading Sut Jhally’s article titled “Manhood of the
Mat: Wrestling & Masculinity,” I have to agree with his opinion that
“wrestling subculture contributes to a larger cultural environment that teaches
boys and men that manhood is about achieving power and control.” He makes the
strong point that wrestling is not about winning or losing but more about who
can be more ridiculing and essentially more of a bully. For young children,
particular boys that watch wrestling, this portrayal of violence, and power
driven brutality might be displaying the wrong message where these children
start to believe that this is what “being a man” is all about. I think UFC
(Ultimate Fighting) is essentially no different. In combination with wrestling,
ultimate fighting is displaying the same brutality and could be teaching young
boys that fighting is acceptable and a part of being a man. Children learn from
adults, and if adults are watching these shows as entertainment than children
might believe that bullying is acceptable and start to bully other kids as
their form of entertainment.

2) The american flag on campus is an state of embodiment also the people that come to the campus to make sure you are registered to vote are a great way of showing embodiment.
Another form of student embodiment on the capus are the student body elections. every camous has a form of Government such as Preident and treasure etc.

After watching the film on PBS about the digital nation, my
mind was more open to the misconceptions I had about multitasking while online.
I always thought that when I was multitasking online I thought I was doing
myself a favor. If I am doing 2 things at once I can get done two times faster.
This however is not true; when multitasking we seem to take longer to each task
which makes us take longer to do each one.
Netiquette is what is being taught to Korean children when
they first learn how to use a computer. Where here in the USA, we are just
taught how to use the computer.
Gaming addiction was another thing talked about in the
program. I feel this one is everywhere not just in Korea. I go into the campus
computer lab that is set up to help students with getting homework assignments
done, more than 50% of the students in there are there to play games on the
computers.
Church and classes have similarities and differences. First similarity
is that most classes and churches have someone in the front that is speaking, while
everyone is sitting facing them. Another is, most of the time there is one
speaker, and the audience is listing. They are not participants in the service
or class, but are there to listen.
The differences can be about the same as the differences
depending on what kind of class it is. I have taken classes where the teacher
has us sit in a circle to help to create an environment of a group atmosphere. Everyone
is allowed to speak in this setting. There is not just one speaker.
Most of society thinks that you
need a college degree to be a productive member. Education and society are a
true link to each other. In order to be productive in society some form of
education is a must. You don’t need to have an education just to be employable.
There are jobs out there that a hardworking laborer can support themselves and
family on, but there are not a lot of them. Even if you are to get a job
without a college degree, you still need a high school diploma for most of
them. You also need some form of training to get a labor job that pays well. It
is true that the higher your education is the better chance you have at getting
a higher paying job.
There are misconceptions about
education in society. Like the cost of education is the biggest one. We seem to
be under the impression that private schools have more money to give a better
education. It does cost more to attended private school but that is because you
have to pay that out of your own pocket. Private school on average has less
money to spend on each child than public school.
Higher education
in the U.S helps reproduce the dominant social relations and cultural patterns
and ideologies in many ways it helps by having the youth of America start at a
young age with all this social media, and basically bombards them with
commercials and a bunch of other things that go un noticed. Also with this
higher education that we have here at the U.S gives us a benefit of teaching
and learning at a higher level.

Performing Gender on Campus
Gender is the range of physical, mental , and behavioral characteristics distinguishing between masculinity and femininity. Depending on the contexts the term may refer to sex. The state of being a male or female social roles and finding your gender identity.
Gender is huge at Bellevue college it has Boys and Girls who are two whole different genders. These genders have different roles. Boys have been known to have short hair wear basketball shoes be manly by playing sports and other things like that. Now girls can do that too but it is less likely to do those activities. Because of the social norm we have made certain sports and places at bellevue college to match what gender identity you fit into. For example the girls bathroom is used as a place where girls can meet up with each other. The boys bathroom is used to just be used and left no one hangs around in there.
2)The kids of Rockdale county and the fighting prostitution have a lot in common. The kids in Rockdale all have sex at a young age and it is common just like the fighting prostitution. These are kids that are having sex at the age of 12 to 18 all are just kids. Another thing that goes down is there is no use of protection in any way. Overall it is a messed up situation for most of the people that have to deal with it like the parents family and friends.
Rituals like Valentine’s Day are
important for building connections in relationships. The process of
acknowledging and affirming the importance of a relationship can be a crucial
element for building stronger bonds. Developing rituals that are celebrated throughout
the year is an effective strategy toward deeper meaning and friendship. In Valentine ’s Day usually Males
are the gift giver however, females
may give gifts too. By giving gifts they are showing their love to each other.
Valentine’s Day is a ritual that
formalizes the acknowledgement of the love and connection people feel about
their significant others, and joint activities are viewed as the strategy most
important in maintaining relationships. Rituals can encompass many different
activities in a relationship including:
- Couples time – Enjoyable
activities shared together including hobbies, meals and mutually shared
interests.
- Symbolic Rituals – Rituals that
mark celebrations of birthdays, holidays. This also includes rituals that
include pet names and play rituals.
- Daily routines and tasks –
Morning and evening rituals, bedtime, and other daily rituals.
- Intimacy expressions – Rituals
in both emotional and physical intimacy.
- Communication rituals –
Sharing, supporting, and venting rituals.
- Spiritual rituals – Personal
and community rituals.
- Creating
and maintaining romantic rituals can enhance, sustain, and build deeper
and more meaningful relationships in couples. Couples create meaningful
rituals by sharing with each other what is important to them. Make time to
sit down with your partner to discuss what rituals are currently shared in
the relationship and what new rituals can be created.
Valentine’s Day is celebrated around the world! Each country adds
its own personal piece of flair to the day but all in all, it is the same
holiday around the world.
Japan: In this country, only women give
gifts on Valentine's Day. It is normally in the form of chocolate. Cards and
other lavish items are excluded from the holiday. Women give chocolates to
their family and friends. They also give what's called "giri-choko"
which are obligatory chocolates. Giri-choko is given to male bosses as a way to
show respect, not romantic intentions.
Scotland: Imagine celebrating a
romantic day with a complete stranger. A popular tradition in Scottish culture
is “The Search of the Valentine Date.” The first man or woman a person sees on
the street becomes his or her Valentine
Romania: the traditional
holiday for lovers is Dragobete, which is celebrated on February 24. It is
named after a character from Romanian folklore who was supposed to be the son
of Baba Dochia. Part of his name is the word drag ("dear"). In recent
years, Romania has also started celebrating Valentine's Day in the more
Westernized way, despite already having Dragobete as a traditional holiday.

Social class is described as the more as the social
economical class. The bases of which is those that group themselves together as
people that are in the same economic class, those that make about the same
amount of money. I fell that there are both the social economic and social
class. Where the social class, are group of people that have the same interest
or hobbies. According the article “Social Class on Campus” written by Will
Barratt, most social classes are based on the social class and the social
economic being in the same group. Most social classes are in the same economic,
but I feel that people interests are based on likes and not how much you make.
Someone in the lower class can be interested in things like Ferraris they just
can’t afford them, but even then he would not be able to be in the same social
class as those that have them. This is because those that have Ferraris won’t
let him into their social class. Even tough, you have the same interests you
still have to have acceptance to belong to a social class. The holistic aspect
of social classes is more seen in the social economics groups, as most members
are of same interests and economic classes, where the social groups focus on
members who just have the same interests, this is the non-essentialist.

Capitalism is the private ownership of capital goods in an
economic system.
Commodities are the goods that are wanted or needed.
Capitalist commodity is the owners of private companies
providing the goods that are wanted.
The commodities that we have on the campus are a few:
vending machines, copy machines, coffee shop, coffee stands, the cafeteria, as
well as the book store. As far as I know the vending machines are provided by
an outside private ownership. Where many of the others, are owned by the
school, or ran by someone with the school.

What we buy, how
we buy, where and when we buy, in how much quantity we
buy depends on our perception, self concept,
social and cultural background and our
age and family cycle, our attitudes, beliefs
values, motivation, personality, social
class and many other factors that are both
internal and external to us. While buying,
we also consider whether to buy or not to buy
and, from which source or seller to
buy. In some societies there is a lot of
affluence and, these societies can afford to buy
in greater quantities and at shorter intervals.
In poor societies, the consumer can
barely meet his barest needs.
The marketers therefore tries to understand the
needs of different consumers and
having understood his different behaviors which
require an in-depth study of their
internal and external environment, they
formulate their plans for marketing. Social, cultural, individual and emotional
forces play a big part in defining consumer buying behavior. Cultural,
sub-culture and social class play an important is finalizing consumer behavior.
For example, consumer growing up in US is exposed to individualism, freedom,
achievement, choice, etc. On sub-culture level influence of religion, race,
geographic location and ethnicity define consumer behavior. Social class
consists of consumer with the same level of income, education, taste, feeling
of superiority and inferiority. Over time consumer can move from one social
level to another.
Social forces consist of
family, friends, peer groups, status and role in society. Groups which have
Culture alone cannot define consumer behavior; social forces also play an
important role. direct or indirect influence on consumer are referred to as
reference groups.
Consumer buying
behavior is influenced by individual’s own personality traits. These
personality traits do not remain the same but change with the life cycle. The choice of
occupation and corresponding income level also play part in determining
consumer behavior. A doctor and software engineer both would have different buying
pattern in apparel, food automobile etc. Consumers from similar background,
occupation and income levels may show a different lifestyle pattern.
An individual buying behavior
is influenced by motivation, perception, learning, beliefs and attitude. These
factors affect consumer at a psychological level and determine her overall
buying behavior. Maslow’s hierarchy, Herzberg Theory and Freud Theory try and
explain people different motivational level in undertaking a buying decision.
Perception is what consumer understands about a product through their senses.
Marketers have to pay attention to consumer’s perception about a brand rather
than true offering of the product. Learning comes from experience; consumer may
respond to stimuli and purchase a product. A favorable purchase will generate
positive experience resulting in pleasant learning. Belief is the pre-conceived
notion a consumer has towards a brand. It is kind of influence a brand exerts
on consumer. For example, there is a strong belief product coming through
German engineering are quality products. Companies may take advantage of this
belief and route their production through Germany.
